At that time, the village head of Pochampally decided to create weaves of cotton along with silk. The <strong>traditional Pochampally weaving technique <\/strong>came from Chirala called Chit-Ku. Many weavers then learned weaving techniques and took over the secrets of this art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ikat weavers from Chirala established the Telia Rumal process for the Pochampally weavers. The weavers diverse their offerings into more interesting sarees and dress materials. These sarees initially came in only a few selected colours. The colours were red, black and white. With the development of new techniques, different colours came into pre-existing colour schemes. The town became capable enough to compete with other silk manufacturers across India. Also, almost all accepted the weaving technique in the industry due to its uniqueness. And it helped in making the whole process of Ikat weaving easier and cost-effective. With the introduction of machines in the year 2000, the weaving technique became more precise and faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Single ikkat is only when the yarn in the weft shuttled is tie-dyed. While Double ikkat is when the yarn on the wrap is tie-dyed as well. The Pochampally Ikat sarees are influenced by the Ikat weaving of Patola from Gujarat. These sarees are made from mulberry silk or cotton and it takes about one week to weave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today most of the weaving takes place in Pochampally village. There are more than five thousand looms.
